355 Opinions

Got back from the machine shop today, they told me the only thing to do with my motor is to bore it .030 over or do a 383. I'm looking for opinions on any parts to do for the 355 since 383 is way out of my price range. I'm going to spend a while and maybe up to 1500 (parts and boring) on the motor. Just looking for peoples opinions or suggestions.
Thanks.

hey if all you need to do is bore and hone it,AND your crank and rods are ok (have them sonic checked) you can build a fine 355 with cast flat top pistons and iron rings. this is done regularly for around $600. good luck

Re: 355 Opinions

hot tank (since it was under salt water) is $200, bore out and hone is $303, crank cut and polish (cuz summit shows 355 kits with .030 over pistons and .010 under crank bearings) is $158. So i'm looking at about 600 for just the machine work. the rebuild kits are about 600 on summit.

So you would spend $160 to put the old 350 cast crank back in when for $30 more you could have a 383 with a steel crank using std size bearing ?

Maybe a hours extra labor to clearance the block for the stroker crank , something you could even do yourself at home for free

Hey ,for #$30 more I would put a new steel crank in even if I was only building a 355

Most offer various different OS piston and std/ undersize bearing combos , like this
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fe...make/chevrolet

The 10 under bearings come with the 30 over kit because in most cases a engine worn out enough to need boring out usually need a crank regrind it
refitting the original crank.
