Setting timing

Hello,
When you set the timing on a 87 TPI do you put the transmission in Drive? I know on my 1978 Trans Am You put it in drive to read and set the timing but nothing I have read has said anything about that.
Thanks again,

Re: Setting timing

Doesn't matter, as long as the engine is running fairly slow. You may well find however that in "timing set" mode, when it's missing about 20 - 25° of advance, it won't even run in gear at all.

Didn't matter in a 78 either, for that matter; as long as the RPM was below the point where the mech adv started operating.
