SLP runners
before I drop $400 on a set of SLP intake runners. will it make more grunt? or do they just look cool? has any one used a set of these on a stock engine? was it worth it? did it make more power?: or am I about to buy some eye candy?

Re: SLP runners
not without a ported base and ported runners. I Had a set of slp runners on a stock base last summer and did not notice any pickup in speed. I did a mild portjob and I was having trouble sealing them to the plenum or intake. Need to find a better sealing to the intake manifold.. in the pic below You can see I am wetsanding and polishing the runners. progress on the right stock finish on the left.

Re: SLP runners
The slps have a small port appears to be 1 1/2. The Siamese design with a ported plenum , ported or aftermarket intake will allow the engine to breath at a higher rpm. If its for a 305 don't waste your coin. For a 350, 383 if your sticking with tpi look for a used set of accel street runners or edelbrock runners. With a 383 or modified 350 you ar better going with a hsr or super ram. Im not sure were you saw the $400 price at but here is a better deal.

Re: SLP runners
Asstated the alps need porting to really be an improvement.
I have them for my car, only because I wanted to keep the tpi appearance.
I had a stealth ram before and would recommend it for anyone looking for more power and don't mind the nonstock appearance.

Re: SLP runners
Accel AND elda-junk are a waste of money. Eldbrok says "edelbrock" on them and its not some carburetor parts so their automatically junk. (my buddy HAD them so I know first hand...)
The Accel are to hard to find THUS making the price to get them realy high...esp since they are cast at the smallest port size of any bolt on aftermarket tpi parts.
-and for the PRO accel guys, do a youtube search for that TPI fuel injections guy. He made a video measuring: SLP, stock, and acce runners and mabye asm too. The --Acces were nearly stock port size....

Re: SLP runners
I have a set of SLPs that are siamesed 3/4 way down, ported on the entry/exits, and then extrude honed. The motor pulls to about 6000rpm but I also have a vortec ported base and plenum with a large cam.

Re: SLP runners
It doesn't matter is they are edelbrock, slp, accrl, or as&m, none of them will give you bolt on gains.
They all offer the ability to be ported, which you can't do to the stock runners.
You still need to port thr plenums to match as well.
The runners are just part of thr total package, all of it has to match.

Re: SLP runners
They are siamesed from the factory, but the port size is same as stock, so they fit with stock bases.
The real benefit is the ability to port them.
I have lots of pics and measurements in my build thread.

Re: SLP runners
just as I suspected. eye candy. I thought the SLP runners CAME simesed/ported!!?? if they ,out of the box need to be diddled with .what benefit are they? I was THINKING they were a bolt on power adder if only by a bit. now I find that it would be easy to lose $1000 for basically nothing . buying them AND THEN trying to find someone to port them. ah ,no thanks
I would let it got for $700 shipped
