86 TA 305 TPI running rich

Ok guys I'm new here. I recently trade my bike for a 86 TA with the 305 tpi, so I'm still learning the car. The car in running very rich, poring black smoke out the exhaust and just smells like fuel. It runs so rich sometime you can't crank it or keep it running and as you drive sometimes it spits and sputters and sometimes it does fine. I did the self code check and got a 33, 36, 46 code. The guy I got it from said the guy he got it from bored the motor 30 or 40 over, port and polished it and running the bigger injectors (that's how he explained it to me). Now for the things I do know, it has hooker shorts, Mallory 8mm wires, flowmaster exhaust, and when it does want to run right, I think it might have a cam (maybe a rv cam). And I did check the block # and its a 305 and I did a fuel pressure test and its at 38 psi and if i rev on it, it goes up to about 42/43 psi. I'm real trying to keep it as stock as possible, other than what's already done, but I have no idea where to start with fixing this problem, I'm new to this fuel injection stuff. Thanks for the help

Start with the MAF relays. They are located on the firewall to the driver side of the brake booster. Rock auto sells the correct relays. Also on 86 there could be another relay on the passenger side of the rad that also has something to do with the MAF. If that shows no change unplug the MAF and see how it runs. If it runs better than your MAF is no good. Also if it does have bigger injectors you need to have a chip burned for the bigger injectors. That would also account for your extreme rich condition. Also set your base timing a 6* BTDC. Look in the forums tech articles for that procedure. Hopefully this all helps you. Please keep us updated
