ok I bought a 91 roller and was going to buy a 91 350 for it but the motor doesn't come with a tpi system and I was wondering if I could use the one out of my 87 iroc z 305? I read that the tpi systems between 86-89 is different then the 90-92 tpi system. is there any way I could convert my tpi over to a 91? if so what all do I need to do as far as the computer and such? or should I just swap the wiring harness and computer over to the 91?

 

There is a complete tech article on how to do this swap. If it were me, I'd just dump the whole thing into the car as is.

Considering the cost I would stick with the tpi maf? You should consider getting injectors from southbay especially if the 91 injector body's are grey in color. The Multecs are known for shorting out and are a junk injector. The memcal from the 305 can be reprogramed easly to a 350 send me a pm if you need assistance

Does the 91 have no engine wiring at all ?

 

If you have the harness from the 91 it would be easier to go speed density to get the speedometer to work. You would need a retrofit vss since the 87 700r4 is a cable drive speedometer.

 

that's what I was just about to ask. yes the 91 has the wiring still in it just no motor or ecm. do you guys happen to know where I can buy a 91 tpi at?

 

I thought you have a 87 tpi unit ? use it and just drill and tap the plenum or a csi plug for 1/4 npt manifold vacuum signal for the map.

not to sound like an idiot but what is npt? I know some about motors but not at all great with modifying. but I would like to save money so the drill and tap doesn't sound all that bad

You don't "need " a 91 TPI

If you have the engine wiring in place you only need a 90 - 92 ECM
Some easy mods let you fit the 87 intake in the 91 car

 

For the VSS you don't need the retro part just get the '91 VSS
and don't forget the knock sensor for the '91
You will also need to change the throttle cable or the throttle body the '87 uses a different one from the '91

 

ill have to get one of those and you said that you had some 7730 ecm's? do they have prom as well?

 

as for the vss, I still have the transmission that came with the 91 wouldn't the vss on that still be good or does it hook up to the tpi as well?
