It just doesn't run right

I have a 92 with a transplanted 350 TPI. To the best of my knowledge everything is wired correctly. My issue is that the variable timing doesn't work. I have set the base timing and reconnected the Tan and black wire back together and the timing stays where it was set. Example: TPiS recommended a base timing of 6 deg with the chip that they programmed, I set the base timing and reconnect the wires as instructed and the timing remains at 6 deg. What am I missing? Is this an ECM issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Does the check engine light come on when you disconnect the EST wire? And when you connect it, shut the engine off and restart it does the light go away?

Try putting the original PROM back in the ECM and see what happens to the timing.

Re: It just doesn't run right

When i built the dash I didn't put an engine light back in it. As far as the original prom, it was reprogrammed by TPiS and I do not have a donor to use.

MEMCAL???? I have no idea what that is. As far a the CEL I am in the process of squaring that away.

its that blue thing behind the access cover on your ECM. it is what tells your car how to act,so to speak. some call them "chip sets" the correct one will go a long way twards fixing your issues.
