need a little help
1986 trans am tpi 5.0
So funny story my muffeler fell off lol.. But now when she first starts up... Regardless rather she's cold or warmed up she runs like shhiiiiish.. And smoke(smells like she's running extremely rich)... Than after running for about 5 min or so she will clear up but runs rich...it all started after my muffeler fell off.... I would like to add that on start up she will die if I don't have my foot in the gas just a little so she doesn't die...

Re: need a little help
It is probably pure coincidence that these issues arose about the same time your muffler fell off.
I would start by checking your fuel pressure and testing the resistance on the injectors, especially if they are original or stock(Multech) replacements.

Did the muffler explode off because of these other things? A friend of mine has a Blazer that he literally fuel loaded the exhaust system, a mis-timed spark set the exhaust off like a bomb and the muffler blew off, unrolling like a loose burrito. It was awesome especially when a bunch of the Maintenance people came out to see who got shot. It shook 2 adjacent buildings. (Just asking if the muffler is the chicken or the egg, of course you still have to decide which came first LOL)

Now that is awesome lol... No it didn't blow up it just was really shot and fell off where the pipe meets the muffler... It was on a little bumpy gravled road.. The graveled road is only about 300 ft long but sometimes if they don't grade it. It has wash boards.

the same thing happens to me constantly, that there will be a noteable incident, then a problem, which leads me to chase problems related to the noteable incident - only to find out in the end that it was just an unlucky coincidence that the problem arose the day after the noteable incident...

Mine did the same when my muffler got broken off by a branch falling off a tree in front of me and getting lodged at the muffler.Ran pig rich.Hard as crap to keep running.Had it tacked back in place to get home.
Next day went to muffler shop. They ordered a 3inch flowmaster cat back for me.But had to put a straight pipe where the muffler was and reduced it down to 2 1/4 out the back.
Fixed it.Finally had some back pressure.
