I am trying to put together a package for the up coming spring time.I am thinking of a set of Afr heads 180 l98 style, scorpion roller rockers 1.5 ratio,I am having my tpi intake ported along with SLP runners and plenum, also have a 58 mm holley throttle body to run.I need some help choosing a cam for this setup, any suggestions?

Between 210-220° duration @ .050". LSA between 110-114°.

TPI doesn't like a lot of duration, the LTR design doesn't allow for larger cams, it doesn't breathe at high RPM.

I noticed you didn't list an aftermarket base, are you having the stock base ported?

I would suggest an aftermarket base.

Basically you want to choose a cam that will keep the power band around 5000rpm. Cams that peak at 5500rpm and up won't work well with TPI. Stock TPI maxes out around 4400rpm, intake/exhaust mods can extend the breathing ability a bit, but it really doesn't want a cam that peaks at 5500rpm.

There are those running TPI style setups on these boards, but they have extensively modified TPI systems.

If you are staying with aftermarket components and not getting into extensive porting/fabrication of those components its not worth a large cam.

Re: l98 tpi formula 350

You need to stop and plan your build out. Decide how much power you want, then decide how you are going to get there. The Cam is a secondary choice.

The heads and intake you choose to run will determine what cam you should choose. The cam is easy/cheap to change out to match the heads/intake combo. The heads/intake are more expensive to change once you start.
