Hi guys.. First of all I love this forum you all are bad *** and have helped me out a lot and for that I am greatfull.

The car is a 86 TA 305 TPI auto... Mods are hooker comp headers 3" collector and 3" y pipe all the way. No cat (new)
No air pump or egr.
Mad wires,plugs,(new)
Hypertech cap and rotor (new)
New lvl 3 raptor 700r4 with 2800 stall
Spark control module (new)
Maf (new)
Maf burn off and powe relay (new)
Afpr set at 48-49lbs (new)
Tune from. John(here on forums... Awesome tune)
Custome CAI
Fuel filter (6 month old)
Fuel pump (7 months old)
IAC (new)
TPS (new)
Pcv valve (new)
NGK O2 sensor(new)
160* thermostat (new)
Air foil
TB coolant bypass
Vacuum 16.5-17 inHg(at idle)

The car starts runs drive very very well lots of power and is fun to drive but after about 1.5-2 hrs+ of driving either when I get on her or dwecel from high rpm she will basically die(just 0 throttle reaponse and will either back fire once real loud out the exhaust or just keep deceling until I come to a complete stop.. Put her in park than she will fire right back up..)
After I start her back up I than have to baby the throttle or she will do it again or start backfiring out the exhaust but again with no throttle response until she backfires... Its wierd and seems to only happen when Shes hot.. I'm thinking its my ignition control module. After she gets hot... I'm going to check my timing today cause I did notice my distributer clamp was jus a little loose. So I will start there.. But like I said if I baby her she's fine.. Idles and drives perfect. Also it just started doing this a couple days ago.

Any ideas or am I on the right track.

 

okay so I did some tests I redid the timing timing set at 6 de the minimal air the throttle position sensor retightened the y pipe and as I'm sitting here and I'm slowly reving up she cuts out about 2000 to 2300 rpms its like she hits a fuel cut off or something.????? Please help.. I'm still learning this system

Sounds like your on the right track icm , or coil breaking down. You can use a vom to test primary and secondary winding resistances on the coil or run the engine with a 40kv spark tester up to the 2k range and see if spark is getting weak.

 

How would I test that and thanks for the reply... Its a new HEI distributer cap and rotor.. I'm not sure how to test it

 

OK so I believe I have figured it out... First because my distributer clamp was a Lil lose she walked 6* so I reset that back to 6* BTDC...
Next the big problem was my ICM was shot so I replaced that and bam she is super sweet now... But this is weird maybe you guys can help me understand why..... Before I replaced the ICM the vacuum was at 16.5inHg but after I replaced it she is now almost at 20 inHg... Y is this.
