Getting an '87 T/A, New to the board, Have some Q's
Hey guys,
I'm trying to get my hands on an '87 Trans Am. It has a TPI 350 that was rebuilt not too long ago. The tranny was replaced with a Jasper 700R when the engine rebuild was done. It has a very small Ultradyne cam in it. I don't know the specs but I will get the receipts when I get the car. The car is in pretty good shape but needs a few bucks to be alot better. I'm fairly familiar with the TPI engine and I've been following Car Craft along with their buildup. I've also read quite a few write-ups on this board. My questions are basically these: What are the best bang for the buck mods to start out lightly with? What exhaust system is best? And basically, what are the FREE mods that everyone does.
Thanks,
Matt

Get a full exhaust system done to this car. I would recommend SLP 1 3/4 headers and any cat back system, also get some LCA relocation brackets to help you plant your tires to the ground because you will need them badly if you get this exhaust system done. For a free mod cut 2 windows in your air intake can if you have one, not to sure but I think 87 birds had a different air intake system then 88 and up. You could also buy the SLP cold air system if you like but just the windows alone made me go from no wheel spin to burning the tires off all the way through 1st gear! Well those are a few ideas to get you started and I hope things go through for you in geting your hands on the TA.

Do a search here on free mods and you will find plenty of info. There are also a bunch of mods that are cheap......

Go to the main page of this site and go to the Tech Articles, there is all kinds of information and free mods for TPI.
Yeah, the first thing I did when I found this website was checked the Tech section. It answered several of my questions right off the bat. I was mainly concerned about which brands were worth the $$ and which ones to steer clear of. I like hearing everyone's opinion as well. I think the first mod will be ditching the rims and getting the 16" black honeycomb GTA rims. It has the 16" flake wheels that angle out instead of in. Anyway, just wanted to get some good opinions. Hell, I may have to let the Mustang go if I get too in to this car.
