Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, I thought the stock springs were only good for 0.470''?
At any rate, when you swap cam's it's a good idea to update the springs to match the new cam. If you still have the original valve train in the car they are over 25 years old and updating those parts is cheap insurance.

I have no idea what the original springs were good for but I wouldn't trust 20+ yr old springs on a new cam nor would I not match the springs to a new cam.
