Planning some winter engine work - 1987 Iroc 5.7
Hey guys, long time member, don't post much these days.. Too many cars..
My '87 5.7 TPI Iroc, thought absolutely terrifyingly fast, has some issues.. The dreaded smoke on start up, which I have a guy lined up to replace the valve seals.. My car has 117,000 kms
The other, I have a cold start up issue, the bugger just never wants to fire up, some times when hot it takes a few tries, I'm leaning toward a bad, or failing 9th injector.. So I'd like to replace that with a plate.. My T-stat is also bad, so I'm taking the intake apart to replace the Injector gaskets, and plenum gaskets..
Questions... About the 9th injector and EGR removal, what do I have to do as far as tuning? I've done a lot of reading.. And have done tuning on OBD II based engines in the past, but never any of my F-bodies.. Where would I get the 1989 ECM info?
I also would like to add a bit more.. Bite.. it's fast now, yes.. But I want faster.. What can I do while I have the top end apart? Is it worth putting on 1.6 Roller rockers? should I take the intake apart and port it?
