Leaking a quart a day
So im new to the whole 3rd gen scene. 2 weeks ago i traded my streetbike for my new dd. Its a 92 firebird 350 with a 5 speed. It was totaled and repaired 10 years ago. Since then the po has let it sit in his yard. He claims he roasted the tires up and down the street every 3 months. I have every thing dialed in now except for the oil leak. It needs the pan replaced and working for harley davidson means i dont have the cash to get it done at a shop. Just looking for some insight on how big of a job it actually is and possible problems i may run into along the way. I have never removed a motor from a car btw and hope that i dont have to learn on my daily. Thanks

The oil pan is removable without pulling the engine. It's not a bad job at all.

Thank you both for the response. Actually talked to a friend of a friend today and im going to a shop monday to get it looked at. He quoted me 600 bucks for an oil pan and rear main seal installed. Sound about right?

So, it depends on your spendable income. It it were me, I would spend a few bucks on renting a engine puller/picker and do the job with a buddy. Might take a while, but you would learn a lot no matter which option you use for the fix....remove engine or raise; you chose.
For information purposes ONLY....I was quoted $300 for the same job on my 88 GTA....at $70/hour
Good luck!
