Spark, compression, fuel, no start.

Hey guys, I have the 92 305 TPI with the 5 speed. So here are the symptoms, if I stall or let the rpm get really low without keeping the throttle up, sometimes it will die, and at first when it started doing it my fuel pump would sound like a dying animal haha, so I replaced my fuel pump and strainer. I drove it for a week no problems, then today I start it there is a service engine light and a VERY rough idle, than the car dies, I tried to start it, nothing, squirted starting fluid in the throttle body, nothing, pulled a spark plug (#1) and there is a light coat of oil on the end that goes into the head, it still had magnificent spark, then I checked my compression, all good, a few hours later I tried it and all the sudden it works like a charm and I am up and driving. The check engine light never stays on so I cannot test it. It won't give me the time to run the code or do the jumper wire thing. The code only pops up when the problem is happening, and even when it is happening, after the car dies the code is gone. So, fuel, compression, spark, and no start (sometimes). 1992 305 TPI 5 Speed. By the way, new battery, alternator, and starter. Doesen't even act like it's about to kick over it just cycles, I can smell fuel and can hear the fuel pump prime, and sprayed starting fluid, I don't want this problem to leave me stuck somewhere, help!

Thanks guys.

Re: Spark, compression, fuel, no start.

Could it be VATS? Also could check IAC/TPS. As for an oily plug, that could be a worse internal problem, oil on plugs.
