Hey guys. Ive been looking through the forums a little bit and can't really find a solution to the problem i have. I have a '86 Iroc-Z with the 305 TPI. Owned it for about 8 years now. I drive on occasion but probably not enough as i should. Anyway.

When I let the car sit, It'll fire right up. If I drive it then go to start it, sometimes it just cranks and cranks then fires. It then runs fine.

Another problem I just started having is the car will drop in rpm's in idle and sometimes stall. Sometimes it shuts off in gear idling as well. I did notice when I start it, the alternator will whine/squeal until the volt gauge goes above 13 then will stop.

I cleaned the throttle body and MAF since i got a check engine light for lean exhaust (if i read the code right) Car seems to run a lot better and only shut off once since. I have a new alternator to put on, but unsure if thats where my problem is coming from.

Maybe start by checking fuel pressure and ohm injectors

 

I just had the fuel pressure checked and it was good cause i thought the pump was going out. I didnt check the injectors yet. thank you!
