ECM and chip - what do we have here
I have been fighting a slight overheating issue and decided to pop into the ECU and see what was there. The screws were loose and no velcro, so obviously someone had been there before. Attached is what I found.
Are these chips basically trash? I had one in my truck in the 90s and never noticed a difference so I sold it when ebay became popular. I have a burner now and thanks to this site, gearhead efi, moates can burn my own chips anyway. So is owning this chip pointless, even worth anything? lol
Also, interesting that it's a reman ECM. This car only has like 80k miles on it, I wonder would could have happened to have caused the original to die, unless there was a recall sometime after 1995.

ECM's die. It happens. Cracked circuits boards or solder joints, etc.
Chip is junk. But you did get a free chip adapter! Score.
Pull the ROM off it and see what they did. I'm sure a few things were changed but off the shelf stuff like that tends to be conservative and generic for obvious reasons.

Good point (about the free adaptor). Here it is in case anyone wants to look inside the bin and compare. When I get time I will. 1992 350 TPI.
