need help on wiring in new model distibuter...

I hate to post this in an tpi section, but I figured somebody doing the LT1 swap has does this before.

I'm swapping over to an LT1 intake, and it requires the smaller distibuter with external coil from later model thirdgens for clearance.

I thought I had it wired up right but still no crank.
I noticed when I turn the distibuter to alter the timing , the speed it turns over doesn't change. (while I'm trying to start it) So I know that isn't right.

It is firing b/c it shows on the timing light.
I sure it's set in right.
Iginition module is new.
iginition coil is new.

I'm not sure on the first two wires on the ignition module(A,B), and the wires on the iginition coil.

Does any body know a good wiring diagram for this setup? The Haynes manual just puts both distibuters together in one drawing. I'm having a hard time folling it. Please excuse my ignorance.

alright

I'm pretty sure that I got wired right now. I'm thinking I got a bum distributer.

When I turn the distributer to advance or retard the timing, the timing stays the same.

Would the ditributer cause that or has anybody ever even heard of that happening?

You won't see an advance or retard till it's running. It doesn't work that way till over like 200-400rpm. I forget.
You probally have a bad ignition module but you need to check a few things first.
First try some starter fluid in the throttle body, not because we suspect a fuel problem but the ECM won't fire fuel till the ignition module tells it to. If she lights off I'd be buying another module.

If still broke post back with info.

89IROCZ,
Can you post a picture of a 1990-92 diagram like the large picture above, please?
Edit- nevermind, I found them all.

Well I got the distributer used...
I did have to get another ignition module, that was my first problem. Now I'm getting fire through to the plugs.

I'm thinking it's the fuel also, we have the same idea there. Because I sprayed alittle starter fluid into the throttle body. Just kinda funny how we thought alike there. It sounds like it would want to crank with the ether.
I hear the fuel pump priming, but that does mean it's shooting throught the injectors. I'm going to borrow a soleniod light and see if the injectors are shooting any gas.

It'll be Sat. (12th) before I can start back on it. My co-op starts tommorrow. I'll hollar back around then.
appreciate it John and everybody

Correct, the ignition module fires the infectors below 400rpm, after that the ECM takes over and fires the injectors.
You need to put a test light on those injectors to see if they're getting a pulse. It's only 5 volts so a 12 volt test light will be dim.
