Is this a good 383 set-up??
Is this a good 383 set-up??
ok, my new motor (forged internal 383) will be in the car very soon, and for the mean time running on a pretty stock TPI unit (ported heads, lower and upper intakes) for now it will also be running a stock cam (ahhhhhh! tell me bout it). But I figure with not having to drive it in the winter anyways and having much more money in the spring, I can do everything I want all at once and get it done right. so what I wanna know is how do you guys think an LT4 hot cam with 1.6 crane rockers and the LT1 intake would hold up on my motor? Does it sound like a good set-up? or do you recomend something else? I know john, our resident LT1 expert
has it on his car, and I am wondering how you like the performance of it on a 383? did you loose any bottom end? and what cam are you running? Also, in the spring after I have my valve train sorted out and get the rest of my suspenison work I would like to spray it too. do U see an unforseen problems since the LT1 intake sits so much farther forward? or should it not be a problem?? oh well, any help would be great guys. thanks.

I say go for it, sounds like a good combo to me. I am not running a LT4 cam though. I have a Crane 222/234, 467"/494", 114°.
I am sort of happy with that cam but it was picked out with TPI in mind, I will probally change it but I will have to change valve springs to handle the extra lift since my TF heads max out at .500"
You can find my engine info on my web site below in my sig for details.

thanks for the help guys, I was thinking the LT1 intake would be alright since like you said it does have the high RPM horsepower ability, and the 383 already makes huge torque numbers. Am I going to have problems running such a high lift cam on my stock (but ported) L98 heads?? or should I be ok. .. I don't wanna end up outflowing my heads, but with a *** port job I don't think that should be a problem. Two more questions too, with the LT1 intake john, you are running LT1 fuel rails right? or are they the same as the TPI? cuz in the pictures they look just like mine, but it has been 2 months since I have seen my engine, so maybe I am wrong. and lastly. . . doesn't the LT4 HC have a little dowel (is that the word I am looking for??) on the end of the cam to spin the opti-spark on later model motors? or does it come right off for L98 installs? well thanks for the help so far.
