Correct Knock Sensor

When I swapped my 305 for a 383 I used the same knock sensor from the 305. Seemed to work ok.

I checked the knock counts and found that it had a few counts and it slightly pulled timing. It wasn't very bad at all. But in my mind, still not perfect.

So after a little research it seemed that I needed to get the 350 knock sensor for my application. I swapped them out, and now I'm getting a lot more knock counts and a lot more timing retardation.

So my question is, should I just go back to the 305 knock sensor, or do I need to dig deeper into why the new knock sensor is reading so much higher?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Correct Knock Sensor

Did you use the torque spec when you installed the new sensor? GM is pretty specific about not adding any additional sealers to the threads, and torquing to spec. FWIW.

Re: Correct Knock Sensor

Yeah, I put it at 14lbs of torque. And didn't add anything to the threads. It came factory with a thread lock.

Re: Correct Knock Sensor

The esc should be the same for both displacements. Have you tried to retard the timing in the effected areas ?
