Hi,

i need my engine number to get the car on the street, Is there someone who can tell me where i can find it? The technical book is telling me that it is near the oilfilter, but it isnīt. Do i have to dissamble some parts to see that number?

My engine: 5.0L V8 TPI from 1988. (Pontiac firebird Trans Am)

Hope someone can help me.

 

The suffix is in the front side of the engine passengers side under the cylinder head on the block. The casting number is more than likely behind the passengers side head. It may say 5.0 on the drivers side. What do you need to decode the engine block for ?

 

RF ledge of the deck. If it's been decked, those numbers may not be there.

I imported the car from the Netherlands and now the German "TÜV" want to know the number on the engine for the datasheet.

I understand your need. You may have moved the car from Amsterdam to Munich, maybe as far as 850km, and the locals want some documentation. I "imported" a vehicle from Florida once. It was about 1,800 miles. As I recall, I think I only had to pay the title transfer fee.

For as much as we seem to like to complain about it, living in the U.S. of A. has some benefits.

If the local authorities need an engine number and those on the deck have been machined off or rusted away, I' don't know what your options might be. Hopefully they'll accept the casting numbers if that's all you can find.

 

I think itīs about 200km from the place i bought the Firebird to here. We have one "EU" now here, but everything is still different from country to country.

Itīs very difficult to see the casting number, but like you said there is one right there on the LR behind the China wall () It's nog very easy to read that number, but maybe i can read it with a lamp and a mirror

So far i can see there is: GM 5.0L S6I (that I could also be a T)
