TPI No Start 86 Camaro Iroc-Z
I am in DESPERATE need of help here!
I have a 86 Camaro Iroc-z. This car spun a bearing and I parked it some years ago, I have recently been trying to get it up and running again. I have the engine fixed and everything is back in and hooked up. I have new injectors, and a new distributor W/cap. I never had any issues with this car before the spun bearing. I thought I would be able to just hook everything up again and it would just start up like it used to. However, I am getting extremely frustrated and have looked on these forums, and elsewhere, also I have watched many videos, checked various diagrams. I can't find anything that appears to be wrong.
1. If I spay starting fluid into the engine, it will start up. I have hooked up the NOID light and it does not do anything, no flashes or anything. I do have power to the injectors on both sides of the wire (Test light lights up on both injector connectors).
2. One thing I do note that is not working is where your "dummy" lights are (service engine soon, fasten belts, etc) they don't light up when you turn the key. Also if i try to Jump the ALDL to see the codes flash on the SES light, nothing happens. Its like the ALDL has no power. (if I recall from when the car was running the SES and other would light up as I turned the key forward) Also, I don't have power at the light bulb where the gear shifter is located. However the safety switch much be working as it will only crank the engine if it is in Park/Neutral.
3. I have checked all fuses in the fuse box and they are good. I don't know what they say because the writing is worn off or unreadable.
4. I have checked all the grounds on the car and everyone seems ok. I used a test light, including the ones on the back of the engine block.
I can take any pictures of any part of the vehicle and post on here if anyone needs to see anything. I am ready to do what it takes to get this car going again.
Thank you and please help me.

Re: TPI No Start 86 Camaro Iroc-Z
I was able to get the car running again. I was able to get the dash lights working, and was able to get a code from the computer. One slow blink followed by two fast blinks.
I was able to get it running with a different computer than the one it came with. Years ago a buddy gave me a computer with code 12227165, from a car he scrapped. My car has computer 16198445. It won't with with the "stock" computer, but it fires right up with the 12227165 computer. Any Ideas on why this may be. I don't know enough about these computers but I will look into what exactly a 12227165 is.
Thanks everyone.

If the fuse checks good, you may have ECM issues. Sounds like you have power, but no pulses to the injectors.

The stock ECM in my '86 is the '165. AFAIK, that was the only ECM for the '86. The 16198445 is a 1989 part number. The 16198259 is another equivalent P/N.
My inclination would be to run with the original '165 ECM and a MEMCAL decoded for the '86.

I have hooked up my NOID light and it does pulse. It is very dim. I have watched some videos on youtube and their noid lights seem to get very bright. Is this very dim normal or should it be very bright like in the videos?
