No start, TPI to carb, Was running with carb, now no start.

Ok guys, here it goes.

I switch from TPI to carb. I is a 92 wiring harness. I wired up the fuel pump and got rid of the computer. The car has run fine for a long time. Now I can drive it then park, come back out and it will not strart.

The battery is showing good, the alternator is showing it is charging.
I can jump it off and it starts.

When the key is on all lights, fan and fuel pump work.

First off will the vats relay still work if the computer is not in the car?
Also it has a B&M mega shifter. Could one of the switches went bad?
Possible heat soak starter?

Any ideas guys?

I had to hook jumper cables to it every round at the track the other night. After hooking up the cables to another batter, the key and starter worked fine.

Thanks for any help!

After running then parking, does it turn over or is it just dead?

Its just dead.

I took it out the other day and drove it for like an hour. We parked it and went into a store. Came back out about 30 min later and it wouldnt even turn over. The lights, fan and fuel pump came on.

I hooked the jumper cables to it and another car and it started right off the bat.

Have you inspected the battery cables & connections? If left to cool, will it start without jumping?

Sure sounds like a starter/solenoid to me. With higher voltage it hits. Kind of expensive to replace just to test though. I'd try cleaning all the cable ends and terminals first though.

I cleaned the cables and even replaced on of the terminal studs. I had the starter off when I took the trans out, and hooked everything up nice and tight.

I do remember last year, I had a problem with the starter spinning up and the go "CLUNK". I guess it could just be the starter.

I dont think it is vats with the computer gone, it has always ran.

I do remember a time or two that it did start back after left to cool. I even tried a different battery and it did the same thing.

Agree with Tom3. Shouldnt need two batteries in parallel to re-start. While it is running, you might consider having the battery and altenator conditions tested / checked. Then, move on to the starter / solenoid.

Sounds like a plan.

Might be time to upgrade to a LT1 starter. They are suppose to be smaller and lighter right?
