Has anyone installed a remote fuel pressure regulator?

So I've been fighting an ongoing problem with losing fuel pressure after the fuel pump primes and extended crank times, especially when the engine is cold. I've narrowed it down to an issue with the regulator. I've read that the replacement diaphragms are not polished where the button seals to the seat of the regulator. So before installing a new one, I polished it to a mirror finish with sandpaper ranging from 600-7000 grit. I could see myself in the regulator button after I was done. Problem still there, though the loss of pressure has slowed a bit. Still hard to start.

I know the regulator seat can be part of the problem. I'm thinking it won't be easy finding one that's not damaged after so many years. While I've been able to find plenty of information on how to polish the regulator diaphragm button, I've found almost nothing about renewing the regulator seat. Mine doesn't look super great.

I was thinking of installing another regulator at the rubber return line and somehow getting rid of/disabling the stock one.

Has anyone done anything like this or come up with a solution?

Thanks!

Pinch the return rubber line after shut off to see if it's the regulator. Should hold pressure. If not it's something else.

I already have per the FSM and have determined it's the regulator.

Anything is possible lol unbolt the regulator and just find a way to put in new line to run to a remote aftermarket regulator.
