Cleaning runners, plenum out (already searched); worth it to siamese plenum, runners

I did some searches and couldn't find what I wanted. What kind of cleaner should I use to clean out the inside of the plenum, runners, base (I guess the base)? I am porting, polishing, and making the outside real respectable looking so it's all off of the car. How do I use the cleaner--spray and wipe, soak (how long) then wipe/rinse off?

Other question: I could spare a day (but need to get my car running very soon); is it worth it to siamese the plenum openings and the tops of the runners (I'll do the base when I get heads/cam, later)? What effects (if not gains) can I expect?

Thanks in advance

Ed mentioned castrol super clean, but said it was pretty caustic. This is part of why I'm wondering what procedure to use, as I've never tried to clean up something like an intake before. I guess I'll just go to the parts store and look at cleaners.

I left castrol superclean in the runners for a good few hours but they are still black.. I guess you could try longer and maybe mix in some gasoline and brake cleaner or something.

Brake cleaner will do the trick. That's what I used when I cleaned mine. Just make sure you get a bunch of cans. That stuff goes quick. Also, you can use something like Purple Power, Simple Green, or Castrol Super Clean and let it soak. Then go in with a barrel brush and scrub it.

when i had my TPI stuff cleaned, the guy dipped it in a 5 gallon bucket of B-12 and let it sit for a while, the stuff cleaned it right up. dunked in soapy water and mildly scrubed and rinsed and dried. very nicely done.

I used carb cleaner and a toilet bowl cleaner! Yes, a toilet bowl cleaner (new). U know how the brush part is in the shape of a loop? Its got the metal braided frame which the brissles come out of. Well, I cut one end of it, and bent it to the curve of the runner! Sprayed some carb cleaner ($1.99 a can at pep boys) and just scrubbed the insides of each runner. Real easy, and its nice cause ya got the handle thats on the brush!!!
Give it a try... sounds funny, but it works@

88 WS6 TransAm GTA, pretty good idea. I'll use the same thing to scrub the runners.
