question about replacing the fuel pressure regulator

87 Formula; 5.0 L; 5-speed; low fuel pressure. Idles okay - stumbles bad as soon as step on gas to pull out. Fuel pressure at idle is around 18 psi (should be around 40). I picked up a new pressure regulator. The new regulator looks exactly like the old regulator. The new regulator included a baggie with 8 O-rings of various sizes. Why? What are these for? The original regulator didn't have any O-rings anywhere. There was no mention of the O-rings in the minimalist instructions that came with the regulator. Unfortunately, one of the tamper-proof T10 torx bolts broke off and now I have to deal with fixing it.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

- Jimmy

Re: question about replacing the fuel pressure regulator

Just a guess, but probably for the injectors or the fuel rail.

Re: question about replacing the fuel pressure regulator

Update. In the process of putting the new pressure regulator on, one of the six tamper-resistant T10 screws broke off. I attempted to drill out the broken screw and put in a self taping screw - but it leaks. Does anybody know the part number for the pressure regulator base assembly? Is there any chance I can find a replacement base assembly or will I need to replace the entire fuel rail assembly? Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks. Jimmy

Re: question about replacing the fuel pressure regulator

The saga continues. As mentioned above, one of the TT10 screws broke off when putting the new regulator on. I ordered six new screws from Fastenal. All they had that were close were slotted screws #6 x 40. I just tried the new screws and they start but only go in about 2 turns before stopping. I got out a powerful magnifying glass and it looks like these screws have 42 threads/inch. Does anybody have any idea where I can order screws these oddball screws? I haven't visited the junkyards yet, but I suspect that is my next step.

Does anybody know the exact size of these six screws?

thanks.

p.s. In the above diagram added by badSS; these are the six screws that attach the regulator to base (#240).

Thanks! I don't see the size listed on the ebay link... I'll post a question to the seller.
