What plug wires do you use with headers?

I am 95% sold on the SLP headers, but I am wondering what type of plug wires to run. Angled or straight boot, any certain type? I just want to have them ready before i do the swap. I have a new set from GM on there now. I am sure those probably won' fit, will they. Thanks

The angled boots would probably be ok as long as you've got wire looms (which I would recommend getting regardless). I'm not sure how the set from GM will hold up to the heat of the headers. I've got Taylor wires right now and they've been pretty good, but most of the guys I talk to have MSD wires with headers. They say they're a little more forgiving to the heat.

I dont have SLP headers but on mine I used MSD's with the straight boot. They work out alright but I dont think I will be using them the next time.

I have the TES headers on my car and I am using the Accel 8.8mm set for the Camaro/Firebird. I think they have worked out really well. They are very forgiving to the heat. Plus they have a few wires with straight boots which made it nice on the passenger side of the car. The reason being that you need the extra length to clear the header tube, unless you run the wire under the header to the back. I personally like having the the boots as high as possible so that I have access to them. But it is your decision. Hope that helps.

Matt

Use good quality plug wires with a 90 deg boot and run over the top of the valve covers. I have no problems with my SLP headers
set up this way.

You are going to need 90 degree plug ends. I'd recommend MSD or Magnecor. The MSD SC's do however have larger boots on the plug end than most other brands. If clearance is tight you may have problems but it's not likely.

I have the SLP headers also, and like other people have already said, you need 90 degree boots. I've used the Taylors and MSDs, and had good luck with both. However, I like the boots on the Taylors the best, as they are more of a hard plastic instead of rubber, and seem to hold up a bit better (at least for me).

Good Luck.

I got the Summit 8MM cut it fit set with 90* boot, they are made by Taylor and re-stamped with the Summit name. I have the SLP 1¾ headers and have not had a burnt boot yet. I like the cut to fit ones run over the headers with a loom, and if you get the Summit ( made by Taylor) wires you also get a crimper.

I used the Taylor wires cut to size with the 90degree boots and "made for you" centerbolt valve cover looms...have not had a problem with the wires and headers yet.

I have Slp 1 3/4 and use the 90 degree MDS Super conductors and they work perfect.

Also a good cheap idea is to go to chevy dealer and get some plug boot covers (see pic)made for LT1's. I had a burn problem and it is gone now. They come in sets of 3 because they only put them on 3 LT1 wires stock but to get 3 sets of 3 is about $9.00

I am using ACCEL 8.8 with 90 degree boots on SLP 1 3/4 inch headers. I have wires run underneath in stock location. Made square wire holders out of sheet metal and bolted them to block. Only had a problem with #5 when the plug wire ran toward the front. I have now ran #5 toward the rear and laid the plug wire behind the oil dipstick to keep it in place.

Yes, I am using boot covers on several plugs (ACCEL shortie plugs).
