A Noob Converting to TPI 350
A Noob Converting to TPI 350
Hello everyone, firstly, just want to say how good this page is for noob’s like myself attempting to convert to TPI. So basically I have an XJS jag (not an f body sorry😬👍
with a modified 350sbc. How modified I don’t currently know. As I’m using a MAP tpi setup I know I’ll need certain info about engine specs to get a suitable chip to run it.
This is what I know so far:
601 heads with stock valves. Maybe slight port job possibly?? Not at all familiar with these heads to know. I will cc the chambers to get the chamber volume to see if they have been ported much in the bowls.
1.6:1 roller rockers
double valve springs
0.030” forged flat top pistons
4-2-1 pacemaker extractors
Aside from working out the CR I’ll need cam specs and I assume I’ll pull the cam out to see if I can id it as it would be difficult to define the lift, duration and LSA with it insitu or is this possible without pulling the cam? I can get a dial gauge and degree wheel on it maybe but how would you work out the LSA?
What typical range of cam specs will work ok with tpi and the 601’s? I’m assuming the cam won’t be too crazy with those tiny valves. I may upgrade the inlets to 1.94’s and do a little unshrouding work. Would the benefit be worth it or just save up for some AFR’s or similar? If I can keep the CR a bit higher that may make up for the low flow rates??
Im just building a streeter to have a bit of fun with without breaking the bank.
Anyway any comments thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Oh the tranny is a th400 3.45 diff I think. Not sure about converter. The remanufactured tpi kit I have has had some port work done I believe and SLP Siamesed runners, 52mm bbk TB.
Cheers in advance
Matt
