I just finished installing a set of 2460 hookers on a 89 Lb9 5 spd. Right around 4K rpms I feel as if the car holds back, I assume is knock retard. I raised the Fuel Press to 50 psi and maybe it got a bit better, but not really sure. I pulled the spark plugs to take a look. Can some tell me if the plugs seem to be showing a lean condition?
If you are going to try to read plugs you need to start with brand new one's, do a test run, and then pull them out for a read. You can't really "read" old nasty plugs like that.
And yes if you installed headers and have done other modifications you may very well need tuning. I needed a lot of tuning on my 86 LB9 due to headers and 1.6 rockers. Caused a lot of detonation - that and the 3000 stall speed converter needed a LOT more AE to get against the converter without going lean and creating runaway detonation. Making the heads/exhaust flow better means you need less timing as the flame front propagation through the cylinder is improved from increased scavenging, etc.
Thank you for your reply, I will go ahead and replace the spark plugs. Also have a data logging tool on the way to get a better understanding of what is actually happening. I also have the 1.6 RR as you do, along accel base and runners among other things. Guess tuning is way overdue.
