Ive searched, lets see if I got this straight (intake decisions)......

Ive done a search on the topic and I want to see if Im correct here before I go and invest my money for my 92 Z28 L98. Im looking to start upgrading my intake as I currently run stock pieces. I am considering a miniram II, aftermarket base/runners/ported plenum/super ram or ????. The miniram would be my 1st choice for its simplicity and for the fact I wouldnt have to spend the $ again a 2nd time if I went with a bigger combo later on BUT its my understanding that it doesnt pass emission and I need it to be smog leagal here in NJ. The Super ram looks big and bulky and I really dont know the pros and cons of this unit except its pricey so maybe someone can enlighten me. Last Im considering a TPIS ported base, I have SLP runners already but not on and I located a 2nd plenum that Im gonna port. Im worried cause all I read is how the TPI dies off at 4500 RPMS and while Im not looking for 10-11s I am looking for 12s and the car sits at 13.5 before I added SLP 1 3/4s and I removed my dead AC unit. Im leaning towards the base/SLP runners/ported plenum cause i know its emissions legal and thats the most important part of my decision making. SO am I on target, are there any suggestions or things I may be over looking and how much ballpark would I expect to cut off my 13.52 with the additon of the base/runners/plenum + headers & !AC?? Any info would be appreciated as I would like to begin ordering the parts ASAP while I have the means, thanks ahead of time!!

Z28 92,

I also hear the MR isn't emssions legal. If its not, don't even think about it, I know how the emmisions are where u are already. It goes kinda like this. Modded TPI is your TQ/Street setup. SR is a combination of both, more higher RPM HP than TPI, not much, little loss in TQ. MR is your high RPM HP setup, somewhat noticable loss in lower RPM TQ. (If owners of the setups would like to make corrections here or ad info, cool)

It has to be what u want. Can u get into the 12's on a modded TPI?? Yes. Will it take more work to do it with TPI?? Probably. For the intake all u can really do is port the plenum, LTR's, air foil/52mm TB, TPIS BM base, and ram air. (Don't think I'm missing anything here)

Sounds like Im running with the TPIS base/SLPrunners/Ported plenum/52 TB and the airfoil I have and Ram Air Ill figure out a clean looking installation. That should keep me emissions legal and hopefully get me close to 12.9x which is my goal with boltons. While Im there Im gonna add an adj. fuel reg, new injectors, digital fuel pressure gauge to keep an eye on things and later on 1.6 RR but Im gonna try to add pieces at a time to document my times since the 1st time I had SLP runners on the car my times were off by as much as .3-.4. With little room for error I dont want to take a step back unknowingly. Thanks for the reply, anymore info/suggestions/comments are appreciated....

If you choose to go with the aftermarket
TPI base I would suggest price shopping as the Accel, Edelbrock, and TPIS are the same except for the little bit of handporting that TPIS does(not worth the money in my opinion after seeing one).
