So my 1989 Trans Am GTA out of the blue started dumping fuel into the cylinders. My wife drove it to work and it ran perfectly, after she got off though, it would not start and had to be towed. It was so bad that the oil had at least 2 gallons of gas in it. Any time it is cranked over it will flood and subsequently hydro-lock within 3-4 cranks. But before I realized it was hydro-locked I broke the nose cone on my starter. I took the plugs out and it only seems to be flooding the number 6 cylinder. This may be a super common problem but I've scanned every forum I can find and none of them have come close to helping me solve the problem. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience but would very much appreciate any input given. Thank you in advance,

Fuel only can come from injectors or fuel pressure regulator vacuum line back to plenum. I have seen regulators fail and leak fuel thru plenum into cylinders. Seen injectors stick open and flood cylinders

Yep, regulator or injs. I'd start with the regulator 1st.

I believe 1989 are the famous Multec injectors on the TPI LB9 or L98. IMHO, it would be worth changing them anyway if there are still OEM. Mine did act up when I had the old 305 TPI and it was running rich like hell. Did not flood but black soot coming out of tail pipes as well as carbonized spark plugs and 02 sensor.
Best of luck!

Another problem I had that flooded the engine (305TPI LB9 1991) was the EPROM failure. That is probably rare but it's something to keep in mind. It was making the ECM going crazy and opening the injectors way too much. I was able to diagnose by monitoring engine data with software. I saw the injectors were opening at double the rate for unknown reason. A new EPROM fixed the problem. That is most likely not your case if you say it's only #6 acting up.
Cheers
