Re: Distributor recommendations?

I believe I have purchased 5 distributors from DUI now. Every one of them has been fantastic.

My car is stock so i don't really need a high end distributor... stock would suffice.. something like this maybe

Re: Distributor recommendations?

What the guys have suggested is a good reliable distributor that you'll never have to question. And instead of having to spend 100 bucks you'll spend 200 bucks. But if doesn't matter then buy an auto parts store one because they're basically all the same. Made sort of OK, the module will crap out, the pick up coil is iffy, etc. Just don't buy it from Summit for 100 USD, buy it from Rock Auto for 94 CAD and save even more money.

Re: Distributor recommendations?

Chinese crap. Sure go for it and find out the hard way. Kind of defeats the purpose of asking us though don't you think?

Re: Distributor recommendations?

I went with an AC Delco on mine a few years back, no complaints on a largely stock set up. But if I knew about that DUI unit I would have went with them. They are actually less $$$ than the re-man AC Delco and according to the website you can even pick up some extra horsepower.

Re: Distributor recommendations?

I dropped the Spectrum unit in my 89 IROC... mostly because its just a project car that i am not keeping long term (assuming any thirdgen people are left after COVID)

No complaints, no problems... runs just fine. I still have the original but its guts are pretty rusted.

Re: Distributor recommendations?

I don't think stock has anything to do with it. It's either quality or not. Whether you want to spend money on it or not is up to you. I chose long ago to stop buying cheap products for my vehicles. Sure they work, sometimes. I bought enough garbage and learned enough lessons. When you spend more and get a higher quality product you get people who back that product. And that's why I recommended it.

x1000

Even the supposedly "quality" stuff often isn't. Powermaster for example.

The DUI distributor is right up there with my Meziere $600 starter, and my DC Power $600 alternator.

Price out the parts for new cars from the dealer. This isn't out of line.

No one ever said driving was cheap, or even economical. And it's definitely not a "right" although I have customers that seem to think it is.... Especially with 30 year old hot-rods.

My recommendation comes from owning a performance shop for 10 years now. I've tried every brand out there.

Even more correct. I should have stated that earlier too. Price doesn't mandate it's a better product.

Re: Distributor recommendations?

its not feasible being from Canada.. I did reach out to them tho to see if they ship to canada and the prices therein... i take the recommendations from you guys seriously but 400 bucks for a distributor for a car that can't pass a civic is a little stiff no matter how much i love the car.

I've put that exact spectra GM04 in my 92 two years ago. I was in a hurry and needed a dizzy asap, so I ordered the cheapest from RockAuto. What can I say? Works without any problems, did cost me about 60 dollar two years ago. If the module or pickup craps out in the future thats ok for just 60 bucks for a complete distributor. I have everything on the shelf from Delco. Coil, cap, rotor, pickup and module. Because you never know...
