Recurring code 42/ Electronic spark timing error

Just picked up a 91formula ws6 with a 305tpi and a 5 spd. It suddley died during the test drive after I gave it some gas and would crank fine but wouldn't start. The previous owners took it to a shop and they said it was a corroded connector to the icm and they cleaned it and cleared the code and it ran. Fast forward to after we drive it 200 miles to leave it at our friends house for a few days and I run it up a little over 4k rpm under load and it does the same way. We read it and it's the same code 42. Any idea what to do? Replace whole icm? Or just the connector? Before the issue happened it ran perfectly. Any help would be appreciated!

Just buy a new distributor.

www.performancedistributors.com

And if course replace any of the wiring connectors that are corroded.

it has a new distributer and we replaced the rotor and the ICM. It ran really bad sounded like it had a cam and we used a ton of throttle body cleaner and hit the throttle hard a few times and it runs like new but waiting to see if it will still start in an hour.

Well, it runs like magic till pushed to 4500 rpm and 5k rpm under load (will rev all the way up the tach when in neutral and won't die.) And when I slow down and push in the clutch it dies but will start with some pumps of the gas pedal and starts into some kind of 600 rpm idle limp mode.

You said it has a new new ICM. Which brand did you buy? For a ICM, you should stay with GM.

yeah I got an ac delco repo. But now theres no code and it had the same rough start with pumping gas after I shut it off and there was no stall so same thing happens when I try to restart it after a stall.
