White smoke on acceleration while in park - advice

I literally just got this engine to turn on after 16 plus years of sitting...

90 iroc 5.0 tpi.

it is not coolant as I temporarily have just water in radiator

turned on in park at idle is fine, when I press the accelerator it smokes clouds of white.

let it run for about 10 min.

new injectors
new radiator
new engine oil, I checked and I think it’s over filled
new fuel pump

any advice before a compression test?

Three sources of smoke on an engine since there a three fluids running through it.

Fuel - black smoke if too rich

Oil - kinda blue-ish smoke of youre burning it.

Coolant - steam... its not really smoke

Plain water will still smoke white. As mentioned this is steam. Actual coolant is not necessary.

Possible it was parked due to a head gasket failure?

Compression test may not show a significant change. Need to check for exhaust gasses in the cooling system.

Water is also classified as a 'coolant.'

A much more definitive diagnostic would be a leakdown test rather than a simple compression test.

You put water in the radiator, but unless you completely drained the block (lower plugs on either side), there is still antifreeze circulating - just more diluted than before.

As mentioned, even pure water will look white if excess amounts are being turned to steam in the combustion process. I think it's a leak down test you are going for instead of the compression test. Pulling plugs will also help you find the issue if you had it running for a a few minutes. One won't look like the rest.

more than likely now that you bring it up, I was being optimistic That maybe it was parked due to the fuel pump.

I will be pulling the plugs tonight and inspecting them, I don’t have the tools for a leak down test , however since I ran it again yesterday for 15 minutes at idle I then Found oil in radiator, no water in oil though.
I’ll post picture from plugs but I may just start dissembling it this week.

thanks

Your problem is probably the valve stem seals. I had this same issue and replacing them solved this

That seems to be it, just finished reassembling it, since I had heads out I went ahead and put new rings in, new head valve seals and of course head gasket. All put together now and turned on a few minutes with no smoke . Busy with work and have been doing this in my free time. Thanks
