Need help
I bought a 1989 camaro iroc 305 TPI 5 speed car. It has 76000 miles. Mods are accel distributor and coil. I was told it has had 350 injectors in it. For the most part it runs strong. Here's my problem. About when I bought it the car would start and run great until I shut it off. When I would go to start it the engine would start and die in 3sec to about 5sec. This would happen over and over for about a min or two then start and run great. This didn't happen ever time, just occasionally. It would also throw a check engine light for mass airflow sensor. So I changed it. Problem fixed for about 6 months. Then it started a new thing on occasion where it would idle then when you stepped on throttle it would die. Happened at stop lights and while driving. Just die. I would wiggle the connection at mass airflow sensor and it would idle up and work normally. Started about once a week and then to every time I drove it. Changed the mass airflow sensor again and problem fixed, but now the engine is surging at idle when warm. About 600 to 1000 Rpm. Fuel pressure is at 32psi and responds to throttle input appropriately. Injectors ohm out at 18 ohms +or- .5 when I pull off iac motor wiring it still surges when I disconnect maf it stops surging. The fist maf was factory original that came with car second was remanufactured from summit and third is new Delphi from parts geek. Any ideas would be great. If you need more information I will try to respond quickly. Thanks

Re: Need help
Sounds like you've established the MAF making a difference. 'New' units don't have the best reputation. I'd suggest datalogging it and get a look at what the ecm is reading from the sensor. I'd also take a good look at that connector and make sure it's in good shape.

Re: Need help
I installed a new connector. I checked timing today and it is at 7 degrees I know it's supposed to be 8 i don't know if that's a huge deal. I replaced the temp sensor and O2 sensor. The were original and took a shot in the dark. Seems to have stopped surging. I hope it is fixed. What do I need to data log this year of car. I have done it on newer diesels
