There are plenty here who can help Frank but I think you need to tell us what problems you are having first.

Re: Tpi issues

Starts stalls on initial startup. Takes 4-6 times to stay running. Idle is erratic, when driving car will just stall.
changed from a 305 to 350 w a mild cam, aluminum heads headers, 28lb injectors

Re: Tpi issues

Do you have any data scans? Any chip tuning to compensate for the mods/are you running the 350 PROM chip? Check engine lights?

Re: Tpi issues

That is a beautiful engine, if Brian did the tune then you should be all set in that department. Get a paperclip and pull it straight, insert each end into the AB terminal (upper row, last 2 on the right) on the ALDL on the bottom of the driver side dash. Turn the key to on position, you should hear the fans kick on. the CEL will flash once then twice (code 12 telling you ECM is working and in diagnostic mode), it will do this three times, then if there are any other codes it will flash each code 3 times. Be sure to remove the paperclip before starting. That will at least point you in the right direction...If I had to guess I would think maybe a MAF issue or maybe TPS sensor out of adjustment/broken.

One of the best things I did was get a bluetooth ALDL adapter that can be ran from a old Android tablet or smartphone, for under a $100 you can get live data to see exactly what is going on instead of guessing. This guy here has a good one and a free app http://www.1320electronics.com/12pin_ALDL_BT_MK2.html or there is the $20 ALDLdroid app, simple to use and essential to troubleshooting TPI. Just keep in mind if you get one to get a secondary power source for it because most third gens dont have enough juice in the cigarette lighter to power it so I found a $10ish power cord to run it off the battery with a long enough cord to reach the cabin.

Re: Tpi issues

Where in CT are you?

I agree with Reddragon's recommendations. Start with pulling the codes and go from there.

MAF and TPS are possibilities. Could also be fuel pressure, so I would check that. Could also be a vacuum leak (Common with TPI).

First thing that jumps out at me is it looks like it doesn't have the cold start injector that 86's have. You can change the programming on a custom chip so that you don't need one, but you saying it takes a number of times to crank sounds a lot like what happens when you remove it and don't program for it. I'd verify with whoever did the programming for you to make sure they did that.

That aside, if you haven't set the minimal idle speed adjustment, checked the TPS adjustment, and the set the timing correctly, it can cause all sorts of issues - particularly at idle and start up. This is particularly so if you're experiencing a "hunting idle" (up and down) once it cranks. On new engines or with new parts, I've had to go through a "rinse and repeat" process a few times to get everything "matched up" on a number of cars.

It's not that hard to do, so check out the information in the first link below and you'll get an idea of what the sensors do and the issues you can have when the settings are off. The second link is the procedures to set everything. As indicated in the article, if you end up moving the idle set screw up or down to adjust the minimal idle speed after any original/previous settings, you'll need to reset the base timing and TPS, and sometimes you'll have to reset the minimal idle speed again. If so, keep repeating the process until it's honed in.

Hope that helps, EKG

Re: Tpi issues

I agree had a tps sensor installed and wasn't set correctly
need to download a new tune, data log first, also installed a new iac valve. Have a temp sender and sensor also ready to install. Timing may need adjustment also. My only issue im not good w a wrench. I understand it all though. Going to lean on a few friends for help

Re: Tpi issues

Actually looked at the moates cables and stuff you sent me with the chip. I'm going to plug the data log stuff into the car and my laptop. Will something open up to show me how to data log? Also think I need to set tps first? Wanted to data log before I downloaded tune. Understanding process now, I will try to adjust tps by Sunday. I still have original chip should I download tune on your chip? Or on original? Also removed cold start valve so I need to adjust that.
