Re: Running very rough but no idle - video

Here's where I got the idea:

I think the improvement in idle with no MAF implies the MAF is sending bad data. Perhaps not so out of range as to throw a more specific code, but incorrect nonetheless. At this point, I think there's no harm in trying to clean the MAF with some CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner. If that doesn't work, then a replacement MAF could be a good idea.

Thanks a lot for your input, Komet, and for posting that page! Will give the MAF a good clean and take it from there.

Well lo and behold!!!

We have a winner!! After chasing this issue since august, it turnes out to be a faulty MAF. Got a new one from summit, popped it in and it was idling smooth as silk - even cold and without readjusting timing, IAC and TPS.

So thank you again all that has come with feedback and suggestions along the way, and especially you, Komet, for your final input that put an end to this nightmare!!

Nice, throwing the book at the problem doesn't always work, but this time it did. At least you fixed up a bunch of other minor issues along the way, here's hoping you can enjoy a trouble free summer of cruising!

I know this is an old post but I had to say for following up on your problem Ken! I have been chasing a problem for months, I won't even mention all the things I tried, and when I stumbled upon your post I noticed your car doing EXACTLY what mine was doing. I wasn't getting any codes and I can't seem to get any ALDL data from this car (I can read codes though) so I was troubleshooting blind. This helped me out big time!
