305 TPI running crappy, now won't start
Ok, I might as well post on this board. I plan on taking this 305 out, and doing a major improvement, but in the meantime.....
I drove this (87 iroc, 305 TPI) on a 200 mile trip, got it up to 120, out in the middle of nowhere. Temperature started climbing up to 200+, so I backed off (drove at 120 for approx 4-5mi). Cruised at 70 the rest of the trip. When I came off the interstate 80 miles later to get gas, I noticed that this thing had a serious miss, was like, chugging......badly. It used to run like a top......
Well, I made it to my destination, and then it sat for 3mo unstarted. Of course, when I went to get it, it had a dead battery, and after jumping it for 30 minutes, I finally got it started. Drove it 20mi to a u-haul place, rented a truck and full size trailer (since it wouldn't fit on a two-wheel dolly) and towed this beast home. I charged the battery once home, and drove it one time, it seemed to be running a little better (but still with a miss), so I thought maybe I had some bad gas. This car sits for long periods of time...... I went down and filled it with fresh gas, and then put some of that fuel injector cleaner stuff in as well.
The next time I went to start it up, the battery was stone dead, and this was only a couple of days later. So, I went to put the battery charger on it, and as soon as I plugged the battery charger in, one of the dual-electric fans comes on, full power!! I thought, this was strange, since it hadn't been driven in 3 days, and it's about 34 degrees outside...... It's the one on the drivers side of the radiator that came on. Thinking it would maybe run a cycle or something, and shut off after 3-5 minutes, I left the charger on. Came back outside 30 minutes later, and this fan is just trying to take off into the wild blue yonder!! Needless to say, this is just sucking all the juice up, and I can't get any into the battery, to see if this thing will start or not. Anybody know how I can unplug, or bypass this fan, so that I can get this thing started. The next place I'm gonna drive it to, is the shop where I'm gonna get a motor swap, but kinda wanna do it on it's own power. Plus, I could use the $50 I would have to pay the towtruck on horsepower!!!
Any Ideas?

reach down there or go from under the car and unplug the fans.
you may have a relay that got stuck on and is causing it to be on all the time. youre gonna have to fix them when you get your new motor in anyways so try replacing the relays. they are like 8 bucks at autozone
