See images below. I have a TPI, and I have some extra parts. Noticed the aluminum splitter on one of my intake tubes. Is this just restrictive, or does it have any benefits? I know I could easily run my own tubing but I'm going to stay with stock for the time being. Just curious if anyone had any input on this.

Is that the end of the tube where the MAF sensor attaches? Or were those intended for speed density cars only?

That is the end that the air filter attaches to. I have a 91, so it's a speed density.

I'm not schooled in airflow characteristics so my opinion means absolutely nothing on if it's a restriction. What I am wondering is if that's a factory thing or an experiment by an enthusiast. Seems too costly a piece for GM. I would think it intends on the air cleaner lid to be inline with the aluminum plate.

I have a SLP intake for my 87. the rubber tube that attaches to the Air box has a piece like that and another in the elbow after the MAF.

I think it helps the air travel more smoothly.

Could be the one you have was modified to have that or was part of a SLP intake?

I also thought I read somewhere that it was an SLP thing to smooth out the airflow. Regardless, I doubt there will be a seat of the pants difference between the two.
