So i have a 87 TPI 350 swapped into my 1987 blazer with the 87 TPI system, i got a ALDL cable and was wondering if anyone can help me diagnose this issue I'm having!
--issue is black smoke, rich eye burning smell of gas and running rough under 4000rpm wont really hold idle unless i give it gas?--
One day it was all good running like a champ then went to start it one day and just smoked out my whole street
Iv made other posts but seams to not get much views, if anyone can help me go though the wiring, ignition control module, logging codes and or a diagnosis sequence would save me from just throwing money at it until it may fix the issue
Stuff iv fixed so far (may be irrelevant)
-Plugs
-Coil to Distributor wire
-Vacuum Lines from EGR to TB
-Did TB recalibration to Volt specified in a manual i have for swapping a TPI 1987
I have a ALDL code reader aswell if anyone can help me pull the right data would be amazing!
If anyone can help me out with this would save me tones of money, no local shop wants to even touch this thing nor give me a diag because "its a nightmare" to work on these old ECM's
I also have 1987 SUPERCHIP in the ECM if that has to do with anything!

Ddi you check the MAF?

I know this sounds weird, but is there a check engine light? If you can sucsessfully get the ECM to communicate over the ALDL cable (I'm assuming reddevilriver?) then it is likely not an ECM problem. Check engine lights are thrown only when the ECM sees something wrong... and there aren't many sensors in the car that are self-diagnosing. (or many at all period) IDK how much aftermarket is in your blazer caus its a swap, but in my experience, (and my friends experience) TPIs get extremely cranky (heh) if you modify them too much, and tuning can only get you so far. (The engine computers in these cars are really stupid, and are basically glorified PWM generators. I have never seen a TPI with an aftermarket ECM that didn't have monthly problems.)
Obviously check your fuel pressure regulator for gas smell coming out of the vacuum line, and listen for the injector solenoids crisp rhythmic ticking with a long flathead screwdriver. if one of your injectors isn't keeping time with the others, it is probably sticking. Take a multimeter and ohm them out. If one injector has a different resistance than all the others, it is probably sticking, or on its way out. If you have a single wire O2 sensor that you have not replaced yourself within the past 10 years, replace it. they are 25 bucks at NAPA. If you suspect MAF problems, then unplug the MAF with the car running and see if the smoke goes away. If nothing happens then you likely have a BAD MAF. If nothing happens and no check engine light comes on you have a BAD ECM. if you need to find a new MAF, then good luck finding a old-stock Bosch MAF. (You can also play the lottery with Re-mans or other Aftermarket sensors too. If your aftermarket sensor doesn't fail within a month, it probably won't for many years)
