Idle Difficulties

I've got an 89 Formula. I just had the air pump replaced on it to stop a nasty squeal the old one was making. Now my car idles high (1100 rpms to be exact). And trying to start it up after its been sitting for a while it can't hold enough rpm's to saty on by itself without me keeping the gas pedal down a bit just to keep up the rpms. But when it gets up to a good temp its rpms are higher then they should be??? What's the deal??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

try unplugging you battery for about 15-20 min. then plug it back in, your car won't run very good, but then drive it for awhile(20min). your car should relearn everything then. the computer is supposed to relearn no matter what but I've heard if you unplug your battery it works better. I dunno for sure, it worked for me though.

Jacked up idle

I had the same problem with my T/A. When you sit at light sometimes do you have to keep one foot on the brake and one on the gas to keep it going?? Let me know.

Yeah that happens to me sometimes too. I think it has got something to do with the IAC. I tried to unscrew the sucker but could not get to it with anything. It sits below the TPS and is hard to get too without removing stuff. All I did was disconnect the connector and wipe it over and it ran okay again. The do get carbon buildup and are needed to be cleaned as there is a stepper motor that can get dirty and not work properly.

Might be worth trying to have a look at.
