TPS broken bolt throttle body

Was excited to fix the throttle issue and was in the process of changing the TPS when the top bolt broke. Is there any way to remove it before I buy a used one? Anyone have one for sale?

This.

And, if by chance it doesn't work, you'll have to step it up a bit by making that slot into an X, and then carefully drill the middle of the X perfectly straight, and after spraying it with a bit of penetrating oil take an "EZ OUT" to it.

Bonus points for SLIGHTLY warming the casting if it's still stubborn after you apply the penetrating oil........

Re: TPS broken bolt throttle body

Make it flat, make a slot, use heat and lube. Good luck.

Re: TPS broken bolt throttle body

Thank you everyone who replied..
the finished product. New screws and tps. Eliminated the rough bouncing I had at red lights.

* Removing the original TPS screw was a high headache, part of me rushing to get my car running and enjoy it. I went to harbor freight and purchased a 10 piece extractor kit. It didn’t work. The drill bit just ate up the screw into fine metal. It even broke the extractor as I was turning to remove the Stuck bolt.

so plan b was to just retap the hole. I went to Home Depot and got self drilling screws #8 1-1/4in. After screwing the screw, it bottomed out. I was dumb and never paid attention to the TPS that it’s a thick piece and I didn’t have to keep going. But I was impatient and kept going and broke the self drilling screw in the first hole. There was no way of removing it.

I ended using the drill bit from harbor freight and literally retapped a hole right next to it. Then got the self drilling screw and made sure to no bottom it out. Wasn’t prefect since I had to use 2 washers and the moon shape washer just to accommodate for the space. I made sure to add anti seize to the screws. They are different because I thought using a hex would be easier since I can use a ratchet but the hose still is in the way so I’ll just always have to remove the hose if I want to loosing the bottom screw. Lost the 3rd hex screw so just used a Philips for the top.

I don’t think I’ll be messing with it any time soon. Going to buy a used one.

It’s unprofessional job and all because I rushed it. But I do recommend using better screws and use anti seize as mentioned but others. Just glad I didn’t damage the throttle body and manage to pull it off.

now to look into my code 43.

thanks 3rd gen forum. Happy Easter !

Re: TPS broken bolt throttle body

So I was told that using the self drilling screws is not the proper way. I had to retap it first since it’s a find thread hole and I’m putting a different thread screw. I’m not the smartest but if I can help others from my errors then I’m happy.
I’ll be buying another Throttle body and I’ll retap it the right way this time. But for now it’s works.
