So my question is, with an SLP cold air intake do you have to use a K&N air filter (or any other oiled filter)? I ask because I have read the oil will eventually cause issues with the MAF. I have a 1987 GTA with the box air damn and MAF connected. If I were to use a non oiled air filter with the SLP set up would that negate the cold air element?

It uses the factory size round filter in the SLP box. No it doesn't have to be oiled.
I've never had an issue with a K&N oiled filter with the hot wire MAF sensor.

I also have never had a problem with my K&N filter/SLP cold air box causing a problem with the MAF.
Mine used the factory K&N filter, same as the stock replacement K&N filter.
Thank you guys for all the responses! Maybe I read miss information or maybe they were more “concerns” of causing issues and not actual real life evidence. Either way thanks guys! I really like the look of the SLP CAI over the air box I have in my 87, any performance gains will just be a bonus lol

Oil contamination on a modern electronic MAF sensor is a real concern. The MAF sensors on our cars are an older hot wire design that has a burn off function that heats and burns contaminants from the wire, so in effect is self cleaning.Originally Posted by Gunmetal87

I've never had an issue with mine either. The filter should come pre-oiled, which means it will have been oiled correctly and won't cause any issues. When such issues occur, it's after people have cleaned them and re-oiled them. They'll over-oil the filter, which can then take days to drain, so if it's reinstalled too soon, that excess oil is going to spray through the MAF.
