MAF sensor loose, bad or does it matter?

My dad showed a buddy of his my car today, and he saw that the MAF sensor was loose and said it shouldn't be that way and will effect gas mileage. Does it matter? If so, where do they sell the ring that holds it on, but with a screw on the top to tighten it? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Depends on what side its loose as to if it matters or not. The side towards the engine has to be secure and leak free.

I'd secure it just for peace of mind. Vibration and electronics dont always get along so well, no point in adding more.

vibration is such a concern with MAF's that GM actually put bushings on the securing fasteners to prevent it. Also on my aftermarket Wells MAF it isn't even bolted down so it won't shake and rattle, because it will give erratic readings. Fix it before the element takes a poop!
