have $1000, need engine
I need repair or replace my 305 TPI engine. My choices are to either have it rebuilt or buy a new block and have the heads re-done. I'm not doing the work so I need to know what the best road would be to take. My current engine makes a knocking noise from deep inside the block so I dont know how much extra work will be needed besides the rebuild. Can you guys please give me suggestions on what to do?
So besides having the block done and rings replaced, what else does a rebuild typically include? You have to have the heads resurfaced right? But do you also usually have the valves and springs and rocker arms replaced too? The engine has high miles on it so everything is probably pretty worn.
Thanks for your help guys

i will have my 305 tpi engine out soon to replace it with a 355. it only has 48k miles on it and runs strong with no problems at all. i will be using the crank for my new engine so if you want it i will sell the engine block with heads to you. i will need the tpi unit but it seems like you already have it so... and for the crank you could just use yours. i would recomend having it cleaned up and balanced and stuff. that is not too expensive, but if you ahve something wrong now, it wouldnt hurt to have that done. i need to have mine done becuz its going into a bigger engine block. if this is something you would do, email me at johndo1707@hotmail.com. make me an offer if you are interested or feel free to email me with any questions. thanks!

Well, I just pulled a running 1985 LB9 (nice cam!) out of my 83 Berlinetta to make room for a 361 today. This motor has freshly worked heads, short block has about 120K on it with good compression. In TPI trim it pulls high 14's with auto and full accessories. Items included would be long block minus pushrods and intake. Looking at $250 plus shipping. My folks are snowbirding in Tucson, off Kolb road, so payment won't be a problem. I live in Seattle myself.
