Is This A Good Deal On A TPI Setup?
Is This A Good Deal On A TPI Setup?
$550 for the sensors, distributor, bolts, plenum, runners, intake, harness and computer. i dont know a whole lot about tpi but that sounds pretty complete. it came from a '91 305. same ecm used to run a 350 isnt it? my search for an LT1 intake isnt going so well so i might grab this for now. opinions are appreciated

You didn't mention a wiring harness...for that price I'd make sure it had one.
May want to check pricing on Ebay and compare...check the closed auctions to get an idea.

That's about what a good one goes for. I'd say 450-550 on average. That one is actually a little high seeing as the 305 versions go for a little less because of the smaller injectors. But not bad.
yeah, its got a wire harness
i think i just might cop this until i can find the lt1
what else will i need, he didnt mention a throttle body or injecters, anyone notive anything he didnt list?
is a speed density system good or bad for modded engines?

Tyler-88 before you buy it I would decide what you are going to do for the chip the SD system is better then the mas air with the 383 you want to build but if you spend 500 for that stuff and then another 300 for a chip you may have well bought a dfi system are you planning on burning your own chips. I still have that first lt1 intake with out fuel rails if you may want it let me know If you ask john mabe he has an extra set of fuel rails you can buy from him. It does have a TB and I have a few sets of 22lb injectors laying around.

I gotta back off on the speedreading
I see in your first post you mentioned "harness"...and they say "with age, comes wisdom"
. Yes, it should also include injectors and rails.
Earl brings up a very good point, if you're planning on a 383, you might do better to wait. Most likely you'll be upgrading the lower intake and runners for the 383, as well as injectors.
If you're just planning to do a TPI swap for now, just to get the hang of the new sysytem, I still think you can do a bit better on pricing. But if the unit is local to you and the guy is willing to guarantee that he has everything you need to go to TPI, then it may be a good idea.
If you buy off Ebay or off the classifieds somewhere, then what you get is what you get, and you don't know if it's everything you need unless you know everything to ask for.

true, i think i'll hold off this deal. i was about to jump the gun heh. i think i just seen the 91 tpi setup and thought what the hell. i guess the first step is to find the ecm and wire harness. why exactly is SD better than MAF?

Witch is better this is debatable the resone you have to go to SD system is becouse the mas ECM getts maxed out and can not mesure air flow after a givin # dont know exactly what it is go to the prom board and those guys know. SD does not have this problem nor does the mas air on the new cars lt1 lt4 the ECM for them can read higher #s

Best bet is to get a whole car. You get everything you need, se how it is attached, and can sell the extraneous items, seats, glass, doors to recoup some of your investment. This is what I did- worked out real well.
