what kinda heads??

hey guys. i'm building a 350 for my firebird and am trying to figure out what kind of heads to put on. i'm looking for low to mid 13's. can i get that out of stock heads, or should i go with vortecs or something along those lines. from what i understand, the vortecs also require an aftermrket intake manifold. any info would be appreciated. thanx

I think most people will recomend the AFR heads but, I wan't to give the twisted wedge G2 heads a shot this spring. along with some slp runners, ported base. I think this should give more than sufficiant breathing. for most other upgrades.

I am getting pretty close to low 13's with what I have(13.7 best) I should brake 13's with the spring upgrads..there are people hear doing it with stock heads though.

how are the AFR compared to some vortecs in terms of price, performance, etc..? i'd like to throw some vortecs on but i don't want to get into changing out the intake manifold. gets to be too much $$$. also, where's a good place to get them? thanx

Well think of it this way: If 13 are all you will EVER be after, then yes, I would recommend the Vortecs. If you you think you might want more later, than I would go with the AFR's. Also, as far as cost goes, last time I checked, the prices for these items were as follows:
Vortec heads-- $450--->Jegs
Vortec Intake--$400---->SDPC
AFR Heads----$1200----->AFR
Upgraded springs & Machine Work---?????

Going by these prices, I would recommend the Vortecs, because as it stands, there is a $350 difference in price between Vortec equipment and the AFR heads. Now I don't know what better springs and a little machine work for a higher lift cam would cost, but my guess would be less than $350. Hope this helps.
