which chip works best
which chip works best
I had a hyper tech stage II chip that blew. My computer got fried as well, so now I have a new computer and stock chip. Does anyone have a suggestion on a better chip that isn't hypertech?

If your engine is basically stock, you will be wasting your money on an aftermarket eprom. The to getting max power is getting the proper mixture and right spark curve. Because the stock engines are so prone to "knock", any attempt to increase the spark advance generally is rewarded with massive amounts of knock retard - which often result in LESS Effective Total Spark Advance than if you hadn't bothered trying to advance the spark.
The ONLY way you are going to get the right spark curve while controlling the knock retard to obtain max performance is HANDS ON testing. No custom eprom writer, unless he can physically work on your car and do monitoring is going to get you to that "fine edge". And the cost to have someone do that will be cost prohibitive. The only way you will be able to do that "cost effectively" is to burn your own eproms.
If you are not prepared to get into eprom burning - do NOTHING beyond the typical "mechanical" methods (increase fuel pressure and advance the distributor) - they will do about the same as an "off-the-shelf" eprom and cost you a lot less.

Stock can vary quite a bit from car to car and model year to model year. You are always best to check it. Stock, mine was running around 40 psi, which is actually quite high for stock.
With my AFPR, I run 46 psi to get the benefits of better atomization of the fuel, yet not burn out my fuel pump prematurely. Then I recalibrated the eprom since the stock GM eproms tend to be overly rich "stock" by 10-20%. Still best to do BOTH as excessive fuel just makes you run too rich and wastes gas and HP.
