Cam and head combo... help please
Hey guys,
Spring is coming soon, my car and its mods are in my sig...
What heads / cam combo would you recommend for my car?
I'm thinking about s/r 305 torquer heads since people running these on a 305 have dipped into the 13's...
also another alternative could be the l98 vette heads,
or my stock heads... to make my heads or the stock heads make more power what would have to be done to them, and how much would this cost?
As for the cam, I believe the 305 with the 5spd didnt' get the peanut cam, so what are the specs on my cam?
What cam makes good power for each of the 3 heads listed above?
thanks guys,
mike

Mike,
I have an 89 G92 Formula and I've decided to go with the Vette/ZZ4 aluminum heads. My decision was made for me as the heads were free and practically brand new. I'm currently in the process of porting them myself right now. Not going crazy with them, just some sensible bowl work and gasket matching (for what it's worth). Working with the aluminum actually goes pretty quick but you need to pay attention to what you're doing.
I'm not changing cams right now. I think the stocker is the L98 350 cam, right? So sayeth the Tech Article:
P/N = 10066049
Duration = 207/213
Lift = .415/.430 (.443/.459)
Lobe Sep = 117 deg
Application = 88-89 350,305
I'm sure someone will correct that if I'm wrong. If this is the actual cam, maybe a cam upgrade on a G92 wouldn't be as big of a bang-for-the-buck as it would be on other 305s? That's how I'm justifying not changing it anyway (that and I don't want to take the car off the road any longer than I already will be). An in-car cam change appears to be a lot more work.
My car really is my daily driver so I'm going to try and tune it just with the better heads and some port work on the TPI. Not even going with headers this time. Probably wouldn't be changing heads either but the valve seals are going on my originals. Sooo... while I've got it apart I might as well...
I'm curious to see how far I can push the car just with a set of better heads (like they should have been built in the first place). Besides, I still need to buy the rest of my 1LE front brake parts anyway!
Good Luck.
