How much quicker would my Iroc be going from a 2.77 to 3.42?

My car is fast anyway, but I was wondering if anyone with a similar setup noticed a huge gain after installing a 3.42 or 3.73 in a 2.77 9-bolt? A few months ago I raced my cousin's old car a 97 TA (he's got an 98 Ram Air auto now) with a stick and from 10mph to aroung 75mph, I had him by about five cars, but by that speed I wasn't really pulling anymore, my third-gear takes forever to wind up. My main goal in swapping rearend gears is to at least keep up with my friend's new TA, and really I would like beat the holy hell out it. All the major mods are in the sig.

Well my setup is fairly close to yours. I really am not 100% sure what it did for quarter mile time change. My car never got any traction with the 2.77:1 gear and is even worse with the 3.42:1 ....... But I noticed about a .2 tenth reduction on my G-tech runs with the gear swap and LCAs, PHR, and KYB rear shocks (I did all of those when I swapped the rear end out). I think the real gain is a lot closer to the .5 figure stated above, but I really won't fully realize that until I get some sticky tires. I completely hear what your screamin on the third gear taking FOREVER to wind out..... Man I couldn't stand that when I had the 2.77 gear.. ....... Third gear is much better with the 3.42 gear but I still don't have jack of a top end charge compared to an LS1 or modded LT1..... I do have an LT1 intake swap in the works which should really work much better with the cam and rear gear combo I have right now versus the LTR setup I run now.

Hope that helps a bit....
Good Luck!!
Matt

It'll be a nice difference.

Thanks guys, I was hoping the gain would be about .5 tenths. I forgot to mention that I have Spohn subrames, lower control arms and brackets. I'm just glad it's the rearend and not the Coan Tranny that makes third gear seem like a dog. Any yeah, those LS-1's are bad from a roll, I just drove the auto Ram Air the other day, and I couldn't believe how hard it pulled from 60+. I think it has a 3.23 final ratio??, and maybe that's why it feels a lot faster than my car at higher speeds. Oh yeah I'll post some pics of my car when I get my 17X8 chrome Iroc rims from performance wheel outlet.
