TPI Intake Gasket
I have a 92 with a 305 TPI. The intake gasket by the thermostat housing is leaking. Can anyone give me advice on how to approach changing this. The dealership wants $550 to change it. However I'm not made of money and have decent mechanical skills. I'm concerned about doing the work myself because this is a rarer camaro. Maybe some tips. Thanks......
Remove the air intake, then the hoses from the front of the intake manifold. Let the coolant drain out. Remove the plenum, runners, distributor(make sure you know exactly how to put it back), smog lines, and disconnect the fuel lines in the front of the intake. It's as easy as that. Plus a few smaller things. Replace the gaskets and seal the front and back of the block off with silicone, then replace everything. It would be a good time to change your thermostat, plenum and runner gaskets, throttle body gasket, fuel injector o-rings, and any sensors that are old. Make sure you torque the intake manifold down properly or you'll just make it leak again. If you don't have a shop manual, purchasing one could help. You'll need a torque wrench, a Torx 45 bit(I think), and some random sockets.
